SAT Subject Tests (formerly called SAT II and Achievement Tests) are one-hour exams in twenty different subjects. Unlike the SAT, Subject Tests are often paired with high school courses and test the content learned in those classes. Many colleges request several of these tests in addition to the SAT or ACT.

How are SAT Subject Tests scored? Like the SAT, Subject Tests are scored on a scale of 200-800. Subject Tests also have a guessing penalty, meaning that a fraction of a point is deducted for every incorrect answer from the total number of correct answers.
Which SAT Subject Tests should my student take? Check with the school counselor. Since curricula vary, students from your school may be especially well prepared for certain Subject Tests. No school covers everything, so we fill in the gaps, as well as teach testing strategies. If your school's curriculum does not cover what's on the Subject Test, speak to one of our educational consultants who can create a custom-designed program for your child.
When should we start tutoring for the Subject Tests? Some Subject Tests are best taken immediately following the completion of the school course while others can be slotted in at other times. At Inspirica, we feel that it is best to spread the tests out over the high school career. This allows enough time to prepare for each one individually, maximizing the chances for success. Consequently, if you can contact us as early as ninth grade, we will have time to help you create a testing timeline made for your child's specific needs.
If you call us in eleventh grade, there's no reason to worry. We can still help you find your child's path to success.
What is Score Choice, and does it
apply to SAT Subject Tests?
In March 2009, the College Board began to allow students to choose which scores
they would like to report to colleges. This new ability to select and send
scores is called "Score Choice." If a student takes an SAT Subject test multiple times, for example the
Literature exam in both May and June, the student can choose to send both scores or only the higher score.
Although students can take the same exam multiple times, it is important to check Score Choice policies
at individual colleges. Some require all scores. Taking any one test repeatedly can also create stress and
distract from other tests, schoolwork, and activities. Call us, and one
of our educational consultants would be happy to create a testing calendar
for you based on your student's interests, strengths, and academic schedule.
