The Inspirica Story

Lisa Jacobson started tutoring her friends in math when she was in fifth grade and continued doing so through her college years at Stanford. She became a professional tutor in 1983 when she moved to New York City, originally working with girls who said they were "bad" in math. Lisa found that she was able to turn them around so that they would begin to love the subject in just a few sessions.

When one of her students asked if she could help prepare her for the SAT, Lisa took up the new challenge. Her students did beautifully—but better yet, they actually enjoyed the tutoring! Soon Lisa was working eighty hours per week out of her studio apartment in Manhattan. Parents began asking, "Do you know someone just like you who can teach Physics? French? Economics?"

And so Lisa set out on a mission: to find and train tutors who could do more than teach the academic or testing material. She had to find tutors who broke the mold. The tutors she wanted would be nothing short of inspirational (hence the name Inspirica) – warm and nurturing human beings with great communication and motivational skills, who also had a passion for teaching. They would be able to build confidence and reduce stress in the child and family at the same time.

More than twenty-five years later, Inspirica's wonderful tutors change the lives of thousands of students and their families. The varied facets of Lisa's vision—one-on-one studying with a tutor who really cares, constant support and communication, and a caring touch—combined with the knowledge gained in two decades of experience are all hallmarks of the company today.

Lisa and Inspirica have been featured in nearly every major American newspaper, magazine, and television show.

Dear Parent,

When I started Inspirica in 1983, the admissions climate was much like it was when my friends and I went to college in the late seventies. We took the SAT once or maybe twice, perhaps referring to a review book if we were particularly diligent. That's all anybody did. Now, with so many students vying for so few spots, things are completely different, and test preparation is the norm. It's easy to become overwhelmed.

So, stop for a moment, take a breather, and ask an important question: Does test prep guarantee success?

More than twenty-five years of experience tell me that, yes, test preparation can be tremendously worthwhile. If you put your faith in Inspirica, we will help your child go as far as he or she can.

We start fresh with each student. After assessing your child's baseline test scores and goals, we carefully select just the right tutor and supply a high-quality, freshly revised curriculum. We give you an individualized, detailed game plan that includes regular opportunities for you and your child to monitor progress. Our unique collaborative approach means that you'll have the benefit of our whole staff to guide you and your child through the process. Overall, our individualized approach is all about building skills, increasing confidence, and reducing stress.

On the day of the test, your child will be ready to do his or her personal best, feeling as good as possible about facing this rite of passage. To us, and to the thousands of parents who have sought us out for the past two decades, this is success.

Sincerely,

Lisa Jacobson
