Private Counselors Shape Student Lives

Lisa Jacobson, CEO of Inspirica, a one-on-one tutoring firm says there are plenty of counselors out there helping kids select colleges, so she's focused her business on everything else. She's been asked to teach 2-year-olds to read, find coaches to help kids wanting to specialize in certain sports and take kids to museums or to Broadway shows for enrichment.

Oftentimes, she finds she's saying no to pushy parents who want too much for their kids too early.

"Two-year-olds do not need a tutor to learn how to read," says Ms. Jacobson.
